deep-water lobe pump / resistance solids / reversibility / seawater / vacuum
In order to fix working platforms or wind turbines on the high seas, suction piles are frequently used which can also serve as a foundation.
The suction piles mostly made of steel have a cylindrical shape and are open on one side. With the open side pointing downwards, the suction piles are sucked into the seabed due to the creation of a vacuum and then hermetically sealed. In order to create this vacuum, the seawater situated in the cylinder is pumped from the suction pile. Accuvon rotary lobe pumps are used for this purpose.
Due to their compactness, resistance to solids and reversibility, Accuvon rotary lobe pumps are perfect for this application. Two Accuvon pumps are installed on a submersible module and driven by a hydraulic motor. In order to achieve a high flow rate, the two pumps can be operated simultaneously. With high pump pressures, the pumps are switched in series.
Accuvon pumps are used when fixing suction piles at water depths of up to 3,000 m. In order to increase the resistance of the pump casing to the aggressive seawater, Accuvon has developed the Black Protection surface treatment. Thus, the service life of the deep-water pump can be further increased.
